Virat Kohli will be playing his 100th test match tomorrow ie March 4, 2022 against Sri Lanka at Mohali. That's quite feat for any player. So much so for Virat Kohli as he is one of the greatest players in the Modern Era. Virat Kohli's contribution to Test cricket is immense. He has brought so much energy and passion to the game. In the time when people are loosing interest in Test cricket. People like Virat Kohli are keeping Test cricket alive and engaging.

When Kohli started his career not many believed that he could be a successful test cricketer. Forget about becoming a great Test Captain not many believed in Kohli as a Test player. But it was Dhoni who believed in him and gave him that extra chance back in 2012 against Australia in Australia. That was the turning point in his life as far as Test cricket is concerned.

He then became the Test captain in 2014 when Dhoni was injured against Australia. And he scored centuries in both innings. It was very difficult test tour for India as India lost the series 0-2. It was better than the 2012 tour but everyone was in shock when Dhoni retired for Test after the 3rd test match of the tour. Kohli then became the full time Test Captain of India and the rest as they say is history.

Virat Kohli is the most successful Test Captain for India. He has achieved so many great things as a player and also as a captain. India won the test series against Australia in Australia after so many years in 2018-19 tour. Even though India had a forgettable tour of England before the Australia tour. Kohli scored bundle of runs on that tour. India also gave a tough fight to South Africa in South Africa, in spite of losing the series India closed the series by winning the last test of the tour by sheer passion and determination. Kohli once again was the leading run scorer on both sides.

Very recently India managed to win 2 test matches in England under Kohli's captaincy. The last test match of the series will be played later this year, which was cancelled due to Covid scare. India had a great chance of winning the Test series in South Africa this time around. India also started well by winning the first test match of the series but it was not to be, India lost the series 1-2 and sadly that was Kohli's last Test series as captain. He resigned as Test Captain once the Test Series was over. The decision took many by surprise as Kohli was a great test captain and there was no reason for him to quit the test match captaincy other than maybe his personal matters.

Overall Kohli is great Test player and hopefully he will score a bunch of centuries in the coming times as a century is illuded him for a long time now. No matter what he will always remain one of the greatest cricketers to have represented India in all formats.
