The format for the Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2022 is finally unveiled. This year's edition will feature 10 teams as we already know. The teams will be divided into 2 groups. Group A will be lead by Mumbai Indians and Group B will be lead Chennai Super Kings.

This is a similar format which was implemented back in the day when IPL had 10 teams. The format is pretty simple. Each teams from the same group will play against each other twice, which will make 8 games per team form the same group. And rest of the 6 matches will be played against the teams from the different group.

So in this case Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the leaders of the group, so they are in the same row, hence they'll play against each other twice. But in case of other teams from the different group, they'll only play once. So the total number of matches for each team will remain the same, ie 14 games for each team.

Let me make it a bit simpler for you guys.

Here is

Group A : Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants.

Group B : Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans

So in this case MI and CSK are on top so they'll play twice against each other but CSK will only play once against KKR, RR, DC and LS. And same for the Mumbai Indians, they'll play against CSK twice but only once against SRH, RCB, PBKS and GT.

I hope you understand this now. While many people are fine with this format, so many are not so happy with this format as they won't be able to see all teams playing against each other twice. But that's what we got here, at least for this year.

Total 70 games will be played. The matches will be played in 4 different venues in Maharashtra, the venues are as follows, Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai), Brabourne Stadium (Mumbai), DY Patil Stadium Mumbai and MCA International Stadium (Pune). The further venues for the Playoffs will be declared later on.

The tournament will kick start on March 26 and will end on May 29. Which is a bit controversial as this schedule doesn't follow the Lodha Committee recommendation.
