Since his debut few years ago Rishabh Pant is always in the news for right or wrong reasons. He is one of those cricketers from whom you get everything or nothing. But what makes him so special, let's try to understand his career thus far.

When he came to limelight from his under 19 days to the IPL, he was known for his big hitting in the limited overs format. His wicket keeping was always under the scanner. Initially it was very difficult for him to enter Indian cricket team as MS Dhoni was keeping wickets in the limited overs format and Wriddhiman Saha was keeping wickets tests. Both rock solid in their respective places. So Rishabh Pant played some matches in the absence of MS Dhoni and few as a pure batsman.

But nobody really expected him to do so well in test cricket, he is probably the most successful wicket keeper batsman overseas as far as Indian cricket team is concerned. He has scored a century in England, one in Australia and one in South Africa in the ongoing tour. This feat is very unique not only for a Indian wicket keeper but for all Asian teams. So that tells us something about Pant's special talent with the bat. He has also worked hard on his wicket keeping and he is a much improved wicket keeper now.

In the ongoing tour of South Africa, he was heavily criticized for getting out in an irresponsible manner in the second test. But he scored a magnificent century in the last test, where every other batsman struggled to score runs, Rishabh Pant stood tall and scored a memorable century. This is the thing with Rishabh Pant. One day he is praised for his excellent performance and other day he is badly criticized.

But to me Rishabh Pant is very important part of Indian cricket team in all formats, specially in tests. If he continues to play the way he is playing now, he will end up as one the greatest players not only in India but in the world.
