In a recent development Dhoni has decided to quit the captaincy of CSK. Ravindra Jadeja will be the new CSK captain. This came out as bit of surprise to everyone as there is only couple of days to go for the start of the new season of the IPL.
This could mean that, this is probably Dhoni's last IPL as a player at least. He might be seen in the mentor role in future but this might be his last IPL as a player. CSK is one of the most popular teams in the IPL and the main reason for that is MS Dhoni. I don't know how this decision will impact the performance of CSK as Dhoni was the captain of this team since the inception of the tournament. As we've seen last year Dhoni's batting was nowhere near as good as it used to be but he was there for his captaincy. No one can match his captaincy brain.
But now after this decision it would be interesting to how Jadeja handles the captaincy role, as he has gigantic shoes to fill. It would be also interesting to see Dhoni's role in the team. If he is playing only as a Wicket Kepper - Batsman then he has to bat up the order and contribute with the bat. To me it's a big surprise that Dhoni let go of his captaincy only couple of days before the start of the tournament. CSK will now have a massive task ahead. We'll see how it pans out.
