IPL is the only format that MS Dhoni plays right now. But as he stepped down from the CSK captaincy, that put an end to an absolutely unbelievable captaincy career.

When Dhoni first got his captaincy back in 2007 no one knew that he would turn out to be one of the greatest captains of all time. Not only in India but all around the world. India won the inaugural T20 world cup under Dhoni's captaincy and ODI world cup in 2011 after a hiatus. Not only that but India went on to win the Champions Trophy in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. He is the only captain to win all 3 ICC trophies till date. Barring the WTC trophy which is the recent addition in the ICC trophies.

Dhoni's career has gone through a lot of ups and down. As a cricketer one has to live with that struggle. What is interesting though is the way Dhoni steps down from the captaincy position. Back in 2014 when India was touring Australia, Dhoni suddenly stepped down from the test captaincy after the third test match. It was a shock to many Indian cricket fans, including me. He continued as the limited over captain for some time after that. But again in the later part of 2016 he quit the ODI and T20I captaincy. That's Dhoni's speciality, no one knows his next move. He is so unpredictable. After quitting the captaincy he continued his career as a player and eventually retired from international cricket after the 2019 ODI world cup.

He still continued as the captain of CSK in the IPL. He went on to win the for the 4th time in 2021 making him the all time greats of the tournament considering that CSK was out of the tournament for 2 years. He also captained the Rising Pune Supergiants for one year in 2016. It's going to be weird seeing him in CSK colours only as a player. But that had to happen, all good things come to an end. One thing is for sure Dhoni is an absolute Legend of the game.
