The two new franchises locked horn at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday and it was the Gujarat Titans who came on top at the end. It was a very close game though. Had everything that a cricket fan searches for.

Gujarat Titans won the toss and put Lucknow Super Giants to bat. And Gujarat bowlers did a fantastic job in the powerplay, Shami bowled a fantastic spell picking up 3 crucial wickets, Varun Aaron also joined the party and picked up a wicket in his second over. At one stage The Super Giants were looking down the barrel with 4 wickets down with not many runs on the board. But then came Deepak Hooda and the youngster Badoni to their rescue. Both played wonderfully well and both brought up their half centuries. With the help of that crucial partnership Super Giants put up a respectable total of 158 on the board. Something for their bowlers to bowl at.

Gujarat Titans also got up to a shaky start losing two early wickets, Mathew Wade and Hardik Pandya tried to steady the ship but couldn't quite find their mojo and eventually both got out at crucial stages. Then came David Miller and Rahul Tewatia and they put up a solid partnership at a good rate. Miller got out after hitting some lusty blows. Rahul Tewatia on the other hand made sure that the Gujarat Titans cross the line. He batted wonderfully well, hit some amazing shots and paced his innings perfectly.

He had some help from Abhinav Manohar who also hit some beautiful shots. But it was Rahul Tewatia's cool and calm approach that helped Gujarat Titans in winning their first ever IPL game. Great start for the Skipper Hardik Pandya. Shami was named the player of the match for his fantastic bowling.
