Dhoni is out of touch since the last IPL. The story of his form continued in IPL 2021. His captaincy is still top notch but his form is not what it used to be.
People were questioning his decision to still play for the Chennai Super Kings. But I think the fans are happy, as long as he plays fans will support him. Having said that he is the fittest guy around, at 40 he is still as nimble as ever. His running between the wickets is outstanding. The only thing that goes against him is the lack of match practice. He is retired from all other forms of cricket, so IPL is the only cricket he plays.
Considering that fact, he still looks good. He has shown glimpses of his old form. Specially in the Playoffs against Delhi Capitals. He scored a blistering 18 runs in just 6 balls. He scored these vital runs in a crunch situation, that is what makes him a great finisher.
He came to bat ahead of Ravindra Jadeja who is in a great batting form. In spite of that Dhoni came ahead of him and finished the match with 2 balls to spare. He hit 3 fours and 1 six. That was a great knock under pressure. So whenever one doubts the ability of MS Dhoni, he always answers with his bat.
We may or may not see him as a player again in the IPL, that's why this year's IPL is even more important for the CSK fans.
